yay! WINOL REVIEW :)

This week's WINOL 2nd November, was back to its usual standard of quality featuring a variety of stories to interest both the local public and students.

I found the MP story the most newsworthy as it would be a story that the BBC and ITV local news would like to have. The background of parliament along with the local MP appeared very professional as it was very clear and interesting. There was an issue of defamation discussed as he was referred to as  a 'rebel' however this was dismissed as it was decided the MP had acted as a rebel by going against his own party and the advice given to him by the government. There was also another issue that could be viewed as defamatory when it was quoted Ed Miliband was exposed to 'daily humiliation in his place.' It can be seen as a defamatory statement due to him being defamed in his profession which could cause him to be viewed in a different way. It was also publicised to a wider audience as it is an online news programme where he had been clearly identified by the news reporter. The likelihood is that Ed will not sue or take further action against this statement as it could be argued as a defence as in the public interest or as comment. However more importantly the news reporter attacked him professionally rather than personally which happens a lot in politics.

I particularly like the establishing shots that appear at the beginning of the stories as they make it interesting to the audience whilst listening to the news reporter explain the news story. It is also effective that the news stories are relevant to the news programmes target audience and are newsworthy backed up by facts. This is evident in the local bin collection story where the statistics are listed of how many bins hadn't been collected etc informs the public and makes the story relevant as it is highlighted as a key issue locally.

The features preview of Winol Life is successful as it is presented as a teaser via the non- diagetic music that livens up the show giving it an enjoyable feel. The images are selected carefully and presented as a montage that doesn't give to much away, making the viewers want to find out more and watch the whole programme.

The sports coverage as always was very professional by the chosen clips of the matches to give the audience an overall summary of the game. I particularly enjoyed the WINOL Woodwork challenge that by the way isn't copyright as it's an 'idea' which is not covered by the copyright act. However one point for improvement would be the music was particularly loud when the player came and spoke to the camera, apart from this the idea stolen from Soccer AM worked well and was fun to watch.

One last improvement that could be helpful was the reporter who was outside in a gust of wind wasn't heard and I felt that the camera angle wasn't one of the best as he appeared to be looking down a lot and not center frame. This small story could have been filmed inside as it would reduce the outside noise of cars and mainly the wind that made it hard to hear what he was saying.

Hope this helps and I haven't been too mean!! :)
