Today it was announced that after 12 hours of deliberation the jury had decided that Matthew Hamlen 33 from Bishopstoke was not guilty of murdering Georgina Edmunds in her Bambridge home back in 2008.
The judge thanked the Jury and told Georgina's family that they had the greatest sympathy from everyone in court for their sad loss and the stress they had endured for the last 4 years. The family of Matthew Hamlen had attended this trial everyday from the beginning. All that was heard from them when the verdict was announced were gasps. Matthew Hamlen's reaction remained minimal as he will now walk away from court as a free man.
It was said by Hampshire Constabulary that this was one of the biggest murder enquires they had ever had to deal with and that the case will remain open. Thoughts are with the family of Mrs Edmunds and of the local community who will want some form of closure and to see justice done.
