The home made news programme- Winol Online!!

Winol online is a local news channel from Winchester which is produced by 2nd and 3rd year Journalists. It is broadcast weekly, live from the University's very own news room with the weekly local news from Winchester. The programme follows the trend of any news programme and is set to a very high standard featuring the important news for locals at Winchester (specifically us students.) This week the news programme covered many issues some standing out more than others such as the police scandal and Southampton protests. As usual, there is always the latest sport coverage where we find out how are local teams are all performing. I found it hard to review people's work who have years more experience than me, however it is a way in which will help me when I am in their position.

As usual Winol was set to an excellent standard, however this week I did find it less impressive than others. The stories were good and I found the story about the police scandal particularly interesting, but the camera cuts were not certain and appeared to end some news stories promptly. The interviewing of people that relate directly to the story is good as you can get different perspectives and opinions from people who are a part of the story. the background setting is also selected carefully to relate to the story such as the Hampshire County Council story where the interview is in front of their offices with the sign in view.

The news headlines are usually read to perfection, clear and confidently but I felt this weeks was a little less prepared with a few false starts and stutters occurring which may be due to a script or mixing of words. I particularly like the montage of images that set a story before the reporter explains it in detail, where I also noticed some 'general view' shots which links well with my law lecture last week :)

The sports coverage is also very clear and well presented with the overall match being summed up to its audience via a few short clips of the main points of the game. The voiceover is also clear and sufficient, however this week it appeared to be a little drowned out by the loud supporters.

Overall another successful bulletin which will gain many viewers as always. I just can't wait to be a part of it all as it really is like a proper BBC news programme. Check it out.. http://journalism.winchester.ac.uk/?page=21
