Prom Fashion Shoot 14.05.13

This fashion shoot focused on the upcoming Prom Season's fashion, makeup and hair styles. Different sized models were used to highlight the type of dress that suits different figures.

The range of dresses were provided by Tiffany's one of the most popular prom dress sellers and ranged from around £100-£280. The styles varied in style; from puffy and pretty to fitted and elegant. This seasons colour focuses on mainly different shades of pink or blue, although we showed that white isn't just for weddings and can look just as beautiful. The dresses were very plain and were focused around little details such as silver diamante on the front or back of the dresses. The majority of the dresses were floor length leaving out the puffy short cocktail dresses that have been popular in previous seasons.

This does mean that you can get away with not having to wear glamorous high heels; and can resort to being comfortable in a pair of converse or similar style trainer. The hair was a mixture of up and down styles that were chosen depending on the style of the dress. The puffier dresses best suit messy curls or a low plaited bun. This allows the detail on the dress to remain the focus, keeping the hair minimal to accompany the style. Having a low bun is ideal for girls that have weave hair extensions as it allows them to be hidden whilst creating a fuller looking bun. The fitted gowns looked elegant with GHD curls or a high tight bun depending on the detail on the dress itself. Having all of the hair up in a bun keeps the focus on the dress creating a fashionable but delicate look. If the detail is on the side or the back of the dress, having curls tumbling over one shoulder is a beautiful look specifically if your hair is long.

Hair pieces or tiaras can give the perfect finishing touch to hair styles. If the hair style itself is simple, then add a delicate tiara or a hair piece in to add that extra touch. Remember though; with this style less is more and adding to much into the look can take the focus away from everything.

The makeup remained light and simple to finish the overall look. This also depends on the type of dress and the persons specific features. The puffier dress had more of a focus on the eyes with top or bottom eyeliner and mascara. Natural looking fake eyelashes can also be added to give a fuller look on the top eye lid. Eye shadow was kept to a minimal with natural browns being used to keep the look delicate but fashionable. On the top eyelid only, a liquid eyeliner with minimal mascara suits the gown style dresses best. Lipstick is a must with these styles of dresses as it finishes the look beautifully. Depending on the colour of the dress a pink or light brown shade of lipstick is most popular with this particular look. With the makeup, it is better to keep it minimal for it to be noticed and accompany the dress perfectly.

Remember: its important to feel your best and have fun at your prom. It is one of the highlights of the school experience and will be one that you will never forget. Smile, look your best, feel beautiful and enjoy yourself. And get lots of photographs as these will be looked at for many years to come.
