Perfume Reviews

Marc Jacobs- Dot
Dot is the new girl that was released in July 2012 to the UK. It is the ladybird of the collection and was described as a sister to the other natural/ flower themed perfumes that Marc Jacobs produces. Dot consists of a lush effervescent floral scent which is perfect for every electric spontaneous female. It has top notes of red berries, mid notes of jasmine and base notes of driftwood which creates a bold feminine scent. Compared to the other Marc Jacobs perfumes this one has a clear simple fruity scent which lasts for a long period of time.

The bottle for this perfume inspired by his love of polka dots has to be my favourite of all time. It is cute as it is exactly like a ladybird with its delicate wings and black spot design. The scent of this perfume is particularly fruity and would be best worn during the day to give off a fresh and sweet aura. Like other Mark Jacobs perfumes the scent of this one also lasts a long period of time and can even be smelt on your clothing for a number of days. I think this perfume is aimed towards the younger generation 16-25 as its scent is simple and fruity reminding me of summer time and the fun memories it brings.

I would give this perfume a 7/10 mainly because I love the style and uniqueness of the bottle. The perfume itself has a lovely scent however sometimes I think it is just a little too flowery for me personally. This perfume is around £31-£63 depending on the ml of the bottle and the store/ promotions around.

Nina Ricci – ‘Nina’
Nina Ricci is hard to escape because she's so popular. In 2006 she brought out another perfume which looked like an apple. This idea was taken by the producers of Twilight saga films but the courts prevented them from using it. The perfume consists of a fresh, floral scent blending together notes of calibres lemon and lime caipirinha, red toffee apple, vanilla infusion, moon flower peony petals, apple tree wood, cotton musk and white cedar. This creates a sweet feminine and long lasting beautiful scent that remains for days.

Its intended audience was teenage girls which makes the perfume a successful seller according to the sales figures. However ‘Nina’ still remains a very popular fragrance used by a wide audience.  It was originally created as a perfume to evoke in ladies' minds a modern fairytale for  ‘all young women searching for surprise and fantasy in a wonderland where dreams dress reality’. As the advertising tells us, it promises to be magical and enchanting, full of charm and seductiveness. The simple design of the apple bottle is a bit of a let down as it doesn’t directly link to the wonderland theme. However the bottle does represent the fruity and uplifting scent that the perfume brings as soon as it is sprayed.

I think this perfume is best suited to an evening occasion as its scent is sharp and recognisable. You only need a spray of this perfume as the scent is strong and remains for a long period of time. I like the design of the bottle personally as it is simple and allows the concentration to be on it’s scent rather than appearance.

I would give this perfume a 9/10 as it is one of my favourite perfumes I own. It is the perfume that has remained in my collection the longest due to its strong but beautiful scent. I only wear this perfume for special occasions or when I want to stand out and smell unique to others. This perfume is always complimented when I wear it and is a must have for women. The perfume is around £22-£46 depending on the ml of the bottle and the offers that different stores may have on.

This was an old front page for the absoloute:ly magazine for winol.co.uk but instead used the image at the top of this page which is obviously a lot stronger.
